Limo, Wine, and Sushi

Day 14 of my parents' visit was marked by more "firsts", one being the limo we had rented for a trip to the Wine Country. Had you seen how flabbergasted my parents were every time we encountered a limo during our roadtrip (or a Hummer, or an RV, or an RV pulling a Hummer), you would understand how rare limos (or Hummers, or RVs, or RVs pulling Hummers) are in Germany. Thus, they were quite enthusiastic about being chauffered around in one in Northern California's beautiful Wine Country.

Later that day, we spontaneously decided to throw in another premiere: the encounter of my parents and... sushi. It went quite well, but don't expect them to be sad if sushi was permanently and globally banned as of tomorrow. (And no, they wouldn't have any tonight either.)

Discoveries

Making my way through the 2261 photos that were collectively taken during my parents' visit, I've reached days 12 and 13. Days on which Ed and I had to work, while my parents explored San Francisco on their own. Looking through the photos they took while they were out and about by themselves was fun, as if I was looking at San Francisco through the eyes of a first-time visitor. Seeing the sometimes odd things they photographed reminds me of how astounded and fascinated I was by many things when I first came out here, more than three years ago, that now seem mundane (a warning sign in a parking garage for example, see here).

Having my parents with us, witnessing their reactions, looking at the photos they took allowed me to rediscover many of these things all over again (like power lines), which was something I really enjoyed about their visit.

Oh well, and then there are things I can not relate to at all, like the bizarre fascination with newspaper stands that they apparently developed:

No regrets

We spent the Labour Day Weekend in Las Vegas, mainly to see Justin Timberlake. And I'm not even the tiniest little bit embarrassed of that. The show was great, and the perfect beginning to a fun Saturday night partying with friends. Sure, we can't be doing this forever, and ever since we're back, Ed and I are oddly attracted to boardgames and post-dinner walks, but neither one of us will look back one day and say "I wish we had been crazy more often when we were younger."

Here are the pictures of our Las Vegas Extravaganza, and here's some video I took at the JT show, if you're into blurry images and distorted audio:
